The Learning Log
Pocket:
Pocket is a useful social bookmarking service for storing and sharing web bookmarks which you can revisit at any time. It allows any user to save an article or webpage for you to read, even offline. It also allows the user to add tags to articles and for an easier read adjust text settings. If the user doesn't want to read the article, Pocket allows the user to listen to any article which they can do on the go for ease of convenience. Furthermore this app Is available over multiple platforms like android and IOS. I found pocket incredibly simple and easy to use. I can easily add any websites and articles that I wish to read later and even better I can favourite or highlight key things from said article. Looking deeper into the website, not only can I revisit articles at any given moment I can discover collections of articles from ‘todays essential reads’ and other wide varieties of topics so I can use it like any other news app with an added extra of being able to save articles. Like the name suggests, it has everything I need in the back of my pocket.
Facebook Live:
As a media student
Facebook live is a great feature to promote interactivity which can be used
from creating engagement from friends and family or for more of a career motivated
reason it can be used if I wanted to become a content producer or a media influencer
which would be appealing for audiences and potentially even businesses if I were
to promote their brand as well as defining my own. Facebook allows be to go
live from any device, from my phone on the go or more personal with my computer.
It has a large variety of cool features where viewers of my live can like, react,
comment and ask me questions. Even better is that Facebook gives all my
followers a notification when I go live which they can access via there news
feed. Its really simple to do it, you hit the live button and off you go. Even
more fun is that I can play around with the live special features where I can add
frames, drawings, lenses and funny filters and at the end of my live I can either
keep or delete my live video.
Twitter:
Twitter is a social media which is unique in its field where users can post can interact with peoples messages ‘tweets’ from celebrities to family members in which they can subscribe to there platforms. Twitter has been noted by many media professionals as the go to app to promote their brand especially for journalists who take up a percentage of the app to help create a name for themselves and gather sources for work. Twitter moments is a feature that can be used by users to collect together there liked tweets in a form of a catalogue to group them together. An initial con to this feature is how you can only access it via a computer. However from there it was simple and easy to create and find. I easily grouped together my themed group of tweets and I created a moment for all my followers to see. Personally I can see why the whole gathering tweets together to tell a story is useful as it creates different perspectives and can even be used as a powerful conversation starter for any topic, event or even for my future brand as it can create engagement to my platform.
Photos:
I chose
this image to represent the beauty of nature. The beauty of the everyday. A lot
of us don’t go out of our way to watch the sunset as the day closes but it is
truly a magical moment. Something that happens so regularly and so often and
yet we hardly appreciate the beauty of it. The burning colours of the red and
orange pallet contrasted to the dark background is exquisite. The clouds in the
sky are scarce giving the sunset a rippled streaky look which truly emphasizes its
colours. With the foreground being dark and silhouetted, it truly represents
the sunset in all its glory. Sunrises are the very few unspoken natures
greatest shows and every single one is different in variation meaning if I went
outside to capture the sunset again every night for a month, no 2 sunsets would
look the same. Even more amazing is that photo was taken from my home, so anyone
can access or take photos of a sunset. The spectacle for me is the contrast of
the usual blue sky and at night the burning orangish colours. Overall sunsets have
such a power to make me personally feel calm and at peace.
YouTube:
The process
of uploading a short video to YouTube I found surprisingly simple and easy to
do. I selected a video file of what I thought could be a good video and from
there on it was self-explanatory. I gave it a title which was straight to the
point and a small description to match. Furthermore I then added a thumbnail which
was a snapshot of my video so people would know what it was about even if the
title didn’t give it away. I then added a card to the video to give it some
depth. I then made it visible that it was child friendly content and then I made
sure it was a unlisted video before publishing so only I could see it. The
whole process was easy through YouTube’s step to step format and overall I see
the benefit of posting videos to that platform. YouTube has a certain freedom to
it where I can interact with comments and subscribers and furthermore I get to
create my own content, spend time on my editing passion and share whatever I want
and eventual develop a niche audience which would follow my content and obviously
enjoy.
