Stranger Things Research

Task 3

Stranger things poster analysis:

- The fallen bike in the poster could be a clue to the series to what might happen. You can link the bike to be associated to a young teenager and the fact its fallen and by itself can suggest something bad has happened to the child as they aren't there. Furthermore the 3 torches could also further enhance the idea that they are looking for someone and since they are 3 boys it could be his friend. So therefore you can suggest the series could be about a disappearance.

- The genre of science fiction is presented in the poster as in the background you can see some sort of laboratory which is generally associated with government conspiracy and aliens which is common in science fiction.

- Enigma is being created in the poster as we want to know what the 3 boys in the background are looking for and what is so significant about the fallen bike and the laboratory seen in the distance.

- The brand of Stranger Things is clearly seen in the poster as it includes the red coloured title with its bold font is presented clear on the top and the bike is also red which links to the iconic title.

- Clues are given in this poster which gives significant insight into the series. One of those clues being the danger that's present. A girl is seen in the background holding a bat and an older man holding a gun. Furthermore a mysterious figure is seen in the background which you can infer poses some danger to the individuals on the poster.

- Science fiction is presented in the poster with the unknown character/thing in the background which you can link being a monster/alien and furthermore the barbed wire can be linked to highly classified areas keeping things in - like a government conspiracy.

- Enigma is being created effectively in the poster as the girl in the centre creates the idea she's key to the storyline in Stranger things and we want to know her significance and who she is. Furthermore all the characters look scared/nervous and enigma is created by the audience wanting to know what is it they are scared of.

- The poster contains the brand of Stranger Things by including the iconic red title and also using quite dark colours - nothing vibrant - which creates a much more serious tone.

- Clues are given in this poster about the series. One area of focus is a silhouetted man looking at a fallen bike. You could suggest he's a detective or something along those lines and looking into the significance behind the bike - which could be a missing person. Moreover it's split in half to show something underground which you can imply the show has a supernatural element,

- Science fiction is being created in the poster as their is some sort of creature or alien hiding behind a tree which is commonly seen in that genre and an element of the supernatural is seen with something dark and sinister underground.

- Enigma is being created in the poster as we want to know what is the world under the ground which looks dark and twisted and moreover what is the mysterious creature seen hiding in the poster.

- The poster includes the brand of stranger things as it has the same font title dead centre in the poster with the same design however it doesn't use its usual red colour - its more simple.

Task 4

   Trailer:

-The trailer introduces the narrative with some police guy making a comment how nothing bad ever happens in Hawkins which then follows up with multiple shots of a young boy, alone, running from something which appears to be after him. It then continues with the police guy also saying how if a kid goes missing its 99% of the time with a parent or relative and the woman he is with is questioning the other 1% and then cuts back to the young boy disappearing.

- Characters introduced are the boy who disappears called Will, the mother of the child, the sheriff looking for him, 3 young boys which you can infer are his friends also wanting to figure out what happened to him, and a girl who has a mysterious past and important looking people wanting her means she's a very significant character.

- The main enigma of the trailer is the disappearance of the boy called Will and what or who took him as in the trailer we don't see what Will was running from but we know it got him. Another key enigma is the girl with the numbers 011 on her arms as if she's some sort of test experiment and how does she link to this boy and where did she come from ultimately.

- This trailer is targeting an audience around 14-25 of both genders.

- Genres are seen in the trailer beside science fiction for example mystery due to the boys disappearance and definitely the genre action is seen clearly.

  1. An excellent post here - consider the hybrid of genres further - particularly horror. Do a post on how Stranger Things is a hybrid of genres. Well done.
