Planning: My initial ideas for my NEA

NEA:

Brief 3-  Magazines and Online

Task:
- Producing one front cover and the contents pages of the first two editions of a new current affairs magazine.
- Launched by Dennis Publishing
- Two pages for the working website for the magazine
- Must meet the target audience and enable fans to interact with the content.

Requirements:
- Statement of intent
- Current Affairs magazine covers and content pages
- Magazine distribution method
- Number of webpages
- Cross-media production target audience

Target Audience = Socially conscious, 16-25 year olds with a middle to upmarket demographic

Magazine covers + Contents page:

- Four different original main images
- Editing = photos, text, graphics, typography and layout
- Elements needed = masthead, main coverline, selling lines, headlines, captions, subtitles and copy
- Barcode/Date/Edition/Price needed on front cover
- Different mise-en-scene for each cover
- Representation of two different social groups (age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality)
- Call to action to Online Website

Web Pages:
- Original audio/audio visual content
- Two original images (Different than the magazines)
- Website design conventions = original title, logo, menu bar
- Text for introducing main features of the magazine
- Working links
- Media language = typography, images, fonts, backgrounds, logos

Magazine masthead ideas:
- large font
- one simple bold colour - doesn't overcomplicate the magazine look
- potentially include imagery/iconography to the text
- logo intertwines with the title - colour correlation or design style
- font matches theme of current affairs - not bubbly/cartoony
- instantly recognisable

Name ideas:

Timely
- Timely,TimelyTimely
Currently
- Currently, Currently, Currently

The Happenings
- The Happenings, The Happenings, The Happenings

- Playing around with different style fonts to see which are more appropiate. Too cursive or decorative would be hard to read for a magazine, moreover the style had to meet the themes of current affairs which covers serious topics hence the bold simplistic fonts, easily legible and straight to the point. The name ideas also suit the style and theme of current affairs (On topic).

  1. This is a great planning post Isobel and i like your ideas for the masthead. Could you send them out on social media and get people to vote? that way you would be conducting TA research and you can post the results. Well done.
