Advert Comparison
Old Hoover Advert-
-> Hoover logo has a Christmas bow
attached to it to create Christmas imagery.
-> The advert itself is sexist
towards women. She's portrayed as a stereotypical housewife and for Christmas
she'd be more happy with gifts to clean and stay in the house which isn’t an
accurate representation of what all women want, but society wants woman to act
like an obedient housewife.
-> Making the drawn image of the woman happy and emphasize she wants a hoover plays on the stereotypes given to women when this advert was produced.
-> Colour scheme is Christmas
colours such as red and green to show theme.
-> Woman seen as being happy to get
a hoover as a gift. And the slogan itself is saying the best gift to get a
woman is a hoover which would make her happier.
-> She's not looking at the viewer which breaks convention, she's invested in this hoover
gift.
-> Woman looks happy to convey to
the viewer that if she's pleased by it and by purchasing this you'd be too.
Target audience is woman as they are the housewife's of the time.
New Hoover Advert-
-> Not
much wording involved beside ‘cleans better than any other vacuum’. Doesn’t
need lots of wording it’s simplistic and straight to the point. Represents a
good vacuum brand.
-> This new hoover advert is similar
to the old one as the target audience is women as they are still seen as the
gender which cleans the home which is still a common stereotype seen in society
and is also being portrayed in this poster.
-> Colour scheme dull, grey tones
throughout- very simplistic.
-> Background is empty rooms and
faint stairs. Everything looks clean and efficient which you could link its due
to the quality of the Dyson
vacuum.
-> Only real imagery is the woman
cleaning. She's looking down at the floor to almost symbolize how good she
thinks it is.
