History of the MARVEL institution-
October 1939- The Marvel Universe had its big
bang in Martin Goodman’s McGraw Hill office with the first issue of Timely
Comics, titled ‘Marvel Comics #1’. Sold 80,000 copies.
1940/1941- We first met Captain Marvel in an
issue of the comic, and ‘Captain America
Comics #1’ was also released. Both of
them were hits. Republic Pictures debuted ‘The Adventures of Captain Marvel’ as a TV series.
1950s- Americans lost interest in superheroes after World War II, leading
Timely Comics to rebrand as Atlas Comics.
1961- Marvel superheroes experienced a revival and triggered the Marvel
Era due to Stan Lee. He changed the way we see and relate to superheroes by
making them more appealing to adult audiences; before, superhero comics were
largely for children.
1960/1980- some characters like spider man and doctor strange appeared in
motion pictures and they bought toy biz.
1996- Fox bought New World Communication incorporating Marvel Studios
and Marvel Films. The next year, Stan Lee was appointed as chairman of Marvel
Studios.
2008- Iron man was
created by Kevin Feige starting the beginning of the marvel universe. It made 4
billion. A success for marvel.

mass audience- all ages- mainly children to teens.
· Cross media convergence-
movie posters, advertisements such as magazines and radio and word of mouth.
· Technological convergence-
social media posts from marvel actors and promotions.
