Research: Target audience research of mastheads

TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH

In a previous post I made about my initial ideas for my NEA I created 3 names that I could use to title my current affairs magazine:

- Timely
- Currently
- The Happenings

With the names Currently and The Happenings (which I thought were the best out of the 3) decided to poll it on my social media platform Instagram and getting my peers who are around 16-17 (Meeting the target age range of my NEA brief of 16-25 year olds) and they get to vote out of which of the names is the most appropriate.

The results:
- I left my poll on Instagram for 24hrs before seeing the winner.

- The Happenings just won by one extra vote. However as the results were so close it was hard to see which was the true winner so I decided to further my research for a definitive winner. I decided I needed to experiment around with the masthead of the two names and also experiment with the colour and font layout which when completed id put on my social media again for another vote.

Currently edit plan:
- I could experiment with the first letter C- larger and with a fancy font
- Sounding sell line- 'See the current news'
                               - 'See what's happening currently in your world' 
                               - 'See what's going on' 
- Consistent colour theme

The Happenings edit plan:
- I could simplify the header to just Happening and experiment with the first letter 
- Sounding sell line- 'Happening now!'
                               - 'See what's happening in your world'
                               - 'All the new happening today'

Best & Worst Images Analysis

Best 3 photographs- This is one of my best photographs I captured around school it follows the rule of 3 and rule of odds where you can see the left wall, the girl and then the right wall. The shot is centre frame from a low angle where the floor takes up a third of the image. The person in the centre is almost a silhouette and you can’t see many features. The overall tone is dark but there is a break of daylight at the very background of the image which is very complimentary to the other features. This is another of my best photographs I captured around school. It’s a similar format as the first as in being in the same area. It follows the rule of thirds as the wall in the image takes up 2/3 of the image but a way to improve is that I could add something else in the image would create a rule of odds. T he model is posing against the wall that predominately takes up the entire image and the darkness of the wall contrasts the bright daylight. It’s a right frame mid shot....

Planning: Photo shoot: Photographs that may be useful

- I took multiple pictures of the same shot and they all came out interesting in their own element.  - They are all close ups - Taken from a low angle to emphasise the shapes of the flame - Taken outside using natural daylight- potentially even the light provided by the fire - I liked the shots were the sunlight is peeking through the trees in a dappled effect- even creating some interesting shapes which I managed to capture - The trees are in the background with the wood fire in the foreground- highlighting the main piece of the photo - No clear rule of odds but rules of thirds can be seen as the fire takes up the bottom 1/3 of the image leaving the top 2/3 with the naturalistic scenery  - Good contrast between bold orange/red fire and the delicate green background scenery. - Close up of leaves in tree- with one specifically in focus - Taken from a low angle with the camera looking up to create an interesting perspective - Dark shadows clear on m...
